Title: what does "group" mean ?

data in "recipes.xml"  has some 

group="parameter"

I have not found out yet what it means - what does the "group" stand for?
Is it something like a stage/level when the recipes should drop?

Quick translation of comments from recipes.xml:
1st group – basic items
2nd - items
3rd – rare items and portal parts
4th - decorations
5th - require certain conditions to be met
